OPEN SHOPPE GALLERY, a virtual gallery that will eventually create an "Art Wonderland", is the concept of saxophonist and composer Saco Yasuma. OPEN SHOPPE's site can be found at http://openshoppe.net and features multi-discipline offerings of art, jewelry, photography, CDs, poetry, and wearable art. The artists include Ted Berkowitz, Amir Bey, Joan Fleur, Mitsuyo Mori, Barbara Sfraga, and Karen Tweedy Holmes. Great selections of music CDs by Barbara Sfraga and Center Search Quest, Fay Victor, Eri Yamamoto, and Saco Yasuma and poetry books by Barbara Sfraga and Golda Solomon will be available and were featured at the opening. This exhibition is the beginning of a series of shows that will be held each season. Please visit the site to see new developments and periodic announcements.
The sumptuous range of Open Shoppe's art, music and poetry can be sampled in these videos. The blend of the three in one event is the aim of Yasuma, and this was the inaugural happening of a continuing series for each season. A surprise was six year old Catherine Etta Mitchell, the great-granddaughter of the vocalist Etta Jones, with her tasteful playing of the gamelan in D Minor.
